Telescope Checkout Program

The Grout Museum District's telescope checkout program offers the community an excellent resource for learning about astronomy.

Two Astroscan (4.5") telescopes and two Meade Dobsonian (6" and 10") telescopes are available for checkout. A sun-viewing screen is available upon request for the Astroscan telescope, which allows you to safely view the sun.

Rates:

  • Astroscan telescope (4.5") $15/week — sun-viewing screen available upon request for Astroscan only
  • Meade Dobsonian telescope (6" or 10") $20/week
  • Late fees per item $2/day

A $100 deposit is required for every telescope checked out. Payment by check is preferred, and your deposit will be refunded with the return of the telescope. There is also a contract to sign agreeing to checkout terms. To check out a telescope, please call to make an appointment with Jane Ryan at 319-234-6357.
