Guided and Special Theme Group Tours

The Grout Museum District offers guided and unguided tours for each of our Grout District properties, as well as themed tours for special interests and occasions. Take a look at the special theme tour options of the Grout Museum of History & Science below, and then contact us or download our group tour guide for more information on how to make your next group trip unforgettable.

Guided and Self-Guided Tours

Guided Tour: $4.00 per person

Suggested tour hours are from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. The tour operator and bus driver are always free. Lunch is available with all tours and programs, please ask for more information when you book your tour.

Combine Grout Museum of History & Science and Iowa Veterans Museum

Guided Tour: $9.00 per person
Self-guided Tour: $6.00 per person

Add a 30-minute Planetarium show (to any tour)

Show: $1.75 per person

These tours offer an insider's perspective on various aspects of the museum.

Grout Inside Out

Presentation: $3.00 per person

We've all seen exhibits at museums, but did you ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes? This interesting presentation and tour expands on the four main functions of a museum: collections, preservation, interpretation and exhibition. The work BEHIND the scenes is just as fascinating as the exhibits!

Quilts of the Iowa Frontier

Presentation: $3.00 per person

A forty-five minute Power Point presentation on the quilts of the Iowa frontier and the women who made them.

Waterloo History Presentation

Presentation: $3.00 per person

Discover the history of Black Hawk County and Waterloo with the presentation of your choice:

  1. "Prehistory to 1843" and "Seeds of Settlement" - slide show
  2. "Generation to Generation" Waterloo: The City that Grew on the Cedar" (available as slide show or video)

Deposit

A non-refundable $30.00 administration fee must be paid in advance and is required for all tour groups. The full deposit will be applied toward the total tour cost. If any balance is due at time of tour, please submit one check for the full amount payable to the Grout Museum District. Visa and MasterCard are welcome.

Registration

Registration deadline for tours is no less than two weeks in advance. Please supply an approximate number of persons at least one week in advance. Fifteen-person minimum. Groups of 28 or more will be divided into two groups.

Please notify us if anyone has special needs or dietary restrictions.
