Join Anesa Kajtazovic at the Grout Museum for a celebration of World Refugee Day. Let’s honor refugee courage and recommit to building a more compassionate, inclusive world.

A proclamation from the Waterloo City Council will be read to officially mark the occasion. This free event is perfect for families, educators, and anyone passionate about resilience and overcoming obstacles in life. Museum admission is not included with book signing.

Anesa Kajtazovic will be signing copies of her book Anesa, No Škola Today: A Child’s True Story of Escaping War in Bosnia during this event. A book reading will also be held.

About the Author: Anesa Kajtazovic and her family survived three years of the Bosnian War and refugee camps in Croatia. In 1997 they received refugee asylum and settled in Waterloo, lowa.

After graduating from the University of Northern lowa, Anesa became an avid volunteer in her community, and was elected as State Representative at the age of twenty-four. She is the youngest woman ever elected to the lowa House of Representatives, and the first Bosnian-American elected to a public office in the United States.

Anesa wrote Anesa, No Skola Today to portray one child's experience of war and survival. She hopes her story helps us discover inspiration toward peace and freedom.
