Join us on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 4-7PM in the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum Mess Hall at 503 South Street, Waterloo as we recognize Historian Dr. Robert (Bob) Neymeyer for his years of service and dedication to the Grout Museum District.

Dr. Neymeyer, the Historian at the Grout Museum District since 2002, has been the driving force behind the Museum’s “Voices of Iowa” project since its inception almost two decades ago. The “Voices of Iowa” Oral History Project is an innovative approach to the collection, display and preservation of our history. The compilation of personal stories in a digital format provides material that is relevant to a modern generation of users. In addition to the historical chronology, the process captures the personal emotion and interpretation of an event, giving it meaning beyond the printed word or image.

In addition to “Voices of Iowa”, Robert has given countless educational presentations on behalf of the Museum District, written copy for permanent and temporary exhibitions, including the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum which opened in 2008, taught students at the University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa, written several books and sat on numerous important committees, such as the State Historical Society of Iowa Board of Trustees.

Dr Neymeyer is also a past recipient of the Loren Horton Community History Award, William J. Peterson & Edgar R. Harlan Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Courier's 8 Over 80.
