EVENT POSTPONED. NEW DATE TBD.

Why did so many Doughboys paint their helmets in the final months of WWI and subsequent years? What were the motivations and inspirations that informed the visual language of the painted helmet? How frequently were painted helmets used in the field? Were they used at all?

Come discuss these questions and more when the Museum's entire collection of painted WWI helmets comes out of storage for this special public event. Nick Erickson, the Museum's Registrar, will talk to the public about who the helmets belonged to, where they were from, where they were stationed, and how these factors might have affected what they decided to paint. Audience discussion and speculation is encouraged.

Showtimes are at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM and are included with Spring Break Dollar Days admission.

Do you own a painted helmet from WWI? Snap a picture of it and send it to nicholas.erickson@gmdistrict.org. We'll include it in the discussion and talk about what we see and what it might tell us.
