About the story: In 1883, Waterloo resident Henry W. Grout received a chilling telegram: "Your brother has been murdered outside of Deadwood." Henry raced west to uncover the truth behind a case riddled with secrets, prison escapes, and betrayal — including a murder accomplice who escaped justice entirely.
Now, more than a century later, that cold case has resurfaced. A modern murder, a cover-up, and a true-crime podcast are converging on one haunting question: Who killed Warren Grout?
Written by novelist Christopher D. Schmitz, the game is inspired by the real historical murder of Warren Grout and his brother's quest for justice. The late-1880s crime and many of its details are drawn from actual events; the contemporary storyline and characters are fictional.
