Why The Rath Packing Company Failed

The Rath Packing Company was founded in Waterloo, Iowa in 1891 by John W. and Edward F. Rath. It achieved prominence in the meat industry becoming one of the "Big Eight" packers and grew to over $400,000,000 in sales employing more thatn 8,000 workers nationwide. The company entered bankruptcy in 1983 and ceased operations in 1985.
